Statement as to the Accusations of Academic Ayşe Gül Altınay
"Are we going to turn our pain into more violence, hate, pain and injustice, or into steps that multiply life, beauty, love, peace and justice?"
Prof. Dr. Ayşe Gül Altınay, who has been working in the fields of anthropology, cultural studies and gender at Sabancı University, is one of the academics who have been charged with "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" for having signed the declaration entitled "We will not be a party to this crime" prepared by the Academics for Peace.

One Academic Sentenced to 2 Years, 1 Month in Prison
Having her final hearing at the İstanbul 25th Heavy Penal Court, Academic for Peace Ayşe Gül Altınay has been sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison on charge on “knowingly and willingly aiding a terrorist organization as a non-member.”
Trial of academics, who have been charged with "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" for having signed the declaration entitled "We will not be a party to this crime" prepared by the Academics for Peace, continued in İstanbul Çağlayan Courthouse today (May 21).

25. ACM'de duruşması görülen Ayşe Gül Altınay'a "örgüte üye olmamakla birlikte bilerek ve isteyerek yardım etme" suçlamasıyla 2 yıl 1 ay hapis cezası verildi.
Barış İçin Akademisyenlerin “Bu suça ortak olmayacağız” bildirisini imzaladıkları için "Terör örgütü propagandası" suçlamasıyla yargılanan akademisyenlerin duruşmaları Çağlayan’daki İstanbul Adliyesi’nde devam etti.

Solidarity with Academics for Peace Imprisoned in Turkey
Academic freedom, freedom of expression and political rights are denied in Turkey. Academics for Peace are in jail and show trials continue. Journalists, lawyers, women, political party leaders and activists, trade unionists, doctors are also targeted.
